About this event

2025 FVBSC Volunteer Worker's Ride

This
well received event is a FVBSC tradition!

The Worker’s Ride is the Club’s annual THANK YOU to all volunteers who have supported club events over the past year.  See the list of qualifying activities below.
It’s a great opportunity to pre-ride part of the course and also a chance to meet and ride with other club members that you may not have met before.

There will be refueling and hydration options at the start/finish and a rest stop (9:00 route) along with SAG support.
We try to make it a special ride, so make sure to sign-up so we have enough goodies for everyone.

Remember to wear your favorite FVBSC or Swedish Day Ride Kit for the photo op!

We’ll be updating this posting as we get closer to the big day along with watching the weather forecast.

POLICY:

Any club member that volunteers for any qualifying activity is eligible to participate in the Swedish Day’s Worker’s Ride (June 21st) and the Swedish Days Ride (June 29th) for free (a $25 value).  Unlike other clubs, we do not mandate volunteering hours, but we are so very grateful to those of you who do donate your time and talents to the club and our partners.

BENEFITS:

The benefits to volunteering, aside from keeping our club afloat, are numerous!  Get behind your favorite cause, support the sport of cycling, meet new people, make new friends, make a difference!  Plus, many volunteering events offer some type of appreciation tokens such as (Orange!) t-shirts, free food and beverages, etc.

QUALIFYING ACTIVITIES:

  • FVBSC Board Members
  • FVBSC Ride Leaders (min. 2 rides)
  • Swedish Days Ride planning committee
  • Swedish Days Ride event (min. one work shift) volunteering
  • The Bike Rack (Chicago Winter Bike Swap, Cranksgiving, etc.) volunteering
  • Project Mobility (Everybody Rides, Hopes for Hope 5K, etc.) volunteering
  • Mill Race Cyclery (Up the River, Down the River, etc.) volunteering
  • Pedal and Spoke (Pastry Bike Pastry, etc.) volunteering
  • Charity partner events (Easter Seals, etc.) volunteering

The Rides

If you have a bike computer or regularly use your phone for navigation, it’s always a good idea to download the routes even though we’ll have ride leaders. If you're a paper type of person, you can also print out a cue sheet also.

7:00 am Ride

The early crew will do an average pace of 16-18mph.  No rest stop, so fill those water bottles accordingly and grab a quick snack before departing.
Note: 7:00 is Roll Time.  Plan on being at the school earlier with enough time to get prepped.  We’ll do a quick pre-ride photo op and announcement at 6:55.

9:00 am Ride

We will do a slightly different modified loop that usually takes down to Plano for a rest stop at Plano High School.  As in the past, we’ll break into 2 groups.  A 16-18mph group and then a more recreational paced group.  No need to push the pace.  It’s not a race!  Have fun and have a conversation when traffic permits.  Remember, 2 across maximum per rules of the road.

NEW for this year, we’ll do a few extra miles and ride through Plano and then have the rest stop at the Carpenter’s!

Note: 9:00 is Roll Time.  Plan on being at the school earlier with enough time to get prepped.  We’ll do a quick pre-ride photo op and announcement at 8:55.  The 7:00 riders will be fully loaded up on snacks & liquids by then. 😊
